
NM24: Brownfield Development Opportunities
This policy is proposed to be added to the current Neighbourhood Plan
This policy will seek to promote a brownfield first approach to development in New Milton to reduce the extent of additional greenfield development and greenbelt release by NFDC as part of the new Local Plan.
ONH initially undertook a desk-based settlement capacity study to identify potential sites. Following an initial meeting with NDFC, sites with a capacity of less than 5 were removed as were any sites which it is felt should be safeguarded as employment sites under policy NM15 or where the current use precludes inclusion. Landowners were subsequently contacted and those who responses to request their sites be omitted were removed from the list. Sites 1 – 15 are within the defined Town Centre and are included in Policy NM5. This policy includes the remaining locations outside of the town centre as follows:

The Neighbourhood Plan identifies the previously developed (‘brownfield’) listed below and on the Policies Map that are considered suitable in principle to a change of use to residential or residential-led development. Redevelopment proposals on the land will be supported provided they can show that their social and environmental benefits will outweigh any economic cost.
